Why did the Redmen feel they HAD to go for the 2-point conversion after their touch-down?

Why did the Redmen go for two on the extra point vs. Shaw? I don't know why, but I remember the play. It was a dive trap to the fullback off the single wing formation. Like your quiz page Doug. Doing a great job.  Larry Zipsir

Hi, Larry; great to hear from you ! ! I was With the band in the stands behind the East (I think) end-zone, and the TD was scored @ the other end;   I heard that Brugge was worried about SHAW's bare-foot kicker, who was reputed to be deadly from inside the 30, and a lead-pipe cinch to convert after a TD. In retrospect, think our barefoot kicker, now known as Montana Jim, had athlete's foot. May be why Brugge elected to go for two. Thanks for playing ! !
D O Cooper

Saw the story about the Shaw kid and remembered the game and the plan we had to show them up if possible.  If we had won by 2 touchdowns, Brugge was going to let me kick and extra point barefoot. Shaw had this great soccer kicker who could kick from 30 yards and never miss. We only scored once, so coach didn't let me try. I was kicking with my big toe and couldn't practice a lot -- it hurt if I kicked many.
